Just before the Government steamer Lucinda left the wharf, in connection with the Ministerial 1 - dinner to MrFisher (telegraphed the Brisbane correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald), Mr Kidston came aboard and shook hands with all he met. He came to Mr Airey (ex-Home Secretary), and with a cheery, "How are you, Airey, old chap?" the Premier extended his hand. Mr Airey looked more dubious than nervous, but made no move to reciprocate. "What! aren't you going to shake hands!" asked the Premier. Mr Airey shook his head. "Oh, well," remarked the Premier," "if you caitft shake hands with your host, I think you had better go ashore as quickly as, you can." Mr Airey sat solidly oh while Mr Kidston continued greeting those around him. Returning to Mr Airey he said, "Look here, I don't think this is any place for you if you can't shake hands with your host.'" Mr Airey sat for a second or two. as if undetermined what' to do; then he rose from his seat, and lost no time in getting ashore and away from Mr Kidston. The incident caused a. good deal of talk and not a little regret.
