Sir Horace Plunkett, in an address at Birmingham, urged the completion of the land purchase scheme for Ireland. If, said he, Ireland were decently governed for the next twenty years, the money advanced would be absolutely secure. One thousand societies of farmers with 100,000 members had been formed since 1889, and. the turnover by the societies greatly exceeded £2,000,000.
