At the wool sales there was keen competition for super and, poor quality wools, but an irregularity-was noticeable in good grade wools, and in some cases an easipr tendency. The highest price realised for; greasies was • 143 d.
SALE OF HIDES
MELBOURNE, Jan. 21.
At the sale of hides supplies were moderate. There was a good demand, and prices were iirm.

Canada is arranging for the issue of a £6,000,'000 loan at 3£- per cent., the bonds to ■■, have a currency of: ten years, and the minimum £99 os.
NEW ZEALAND LOAN
Received 12.20 a.m., Jan. 22nd. LONDON, Jan. 21
New Zealand has placed £600,000 4 tier cent, bonds with a seven years' currency at £IOO 10s to £lOl.

A cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, Jan. 20th, states that the wool sales have commenced. Home and foreign buyers are present in large numbers, and there is great competition. All descriptions of fine wool are very firm at Dec-ember prices; medium and coarse grades are a halfpenny higher.
