Per Pross Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. Howard Buckley, of Wellington, won a scholarship of ' three years' tuition at the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, open to the. whole of the Marist schools in the Dominion.
NAPIER, Jan. 17. The Hon. A. W. Hogg yesterday investigated a number of requirements in regard to public works, more particularly the necessity for a bridge over the Esk river and the-deviation of a road at Tangoio, to, avoid sea washout. These two works are considered necessary to give permanent communication • with the district. Mr . Hogg left for Wellington to-day. , .

Blackinore, Government Pomologist, reports that the.; fruit crop at Roxburgh and adjoining districts _is very heavy and constitutes a record, the quantity 'being estimated at 2500 and 3000 tons. Consequent.on the gool tillage, systematic spraying and heavy thinning, the quality of the .fruit u very fine. Already fair "'supplies liava_ been placed on tlic' Dunedin market at reasanable wholesale prices. The fruit consists chiefly of poaches and apricots.
