The "United States Congress has appropriated nearly. £1,500,000 for secret service work for 1909. The total appropriations for tlic purpose of prosecuting and preventing frauds on various brandies of the public service exceeded £4,700,000.
In order to demonstrate the reasonableness of his recent order, that military and naval officers should periodically ride 90 miles in three days, President Roosevelt yesterday, in 17 hours through snow and slush, rode 98 miles without fatigue.
