ONE EFFECT OF A R BIT ATT OX. Per Press Association. PALMER,STON NORTH. Sept. 30. The adverse effect of the clauses of the butchers' award was shown in the case of a recent arrival from England. A youth 19 years of age arrived at. Palnierston North a few days ago destitute, but. an appeal io the Salvation Army authorities resulted in work being found fqr him at a butcher's shop at 2Cs per week, the employer also promising a much-needed outfit. The lad, however, had barely commenced work before the Inspector of Factories enforced tihe Arbitration Court's award, which stipulated for a wage of 30s, and the lad. who is an ironworker by trade, has l>een thrown on his own • re sources again, tile, employer being unable, to afford the payment of 30s per week to an inexperienced hand.
