GISBORNE, Sept. 17.
In the Supreme Court the grand jury returned no bill in the case of Wm. Rawell, charged with issuing a valueless cheque and 'rue bills in the case o ialleged attempted murder at Pakarao and in all other indictments presented.
The Maori Tu Raroa was acquitted on ;v charge of horse-stealing.
Michael Cleftry was acquitted ou a charge of breaking and entering. In the case of Norman Marlow charged with carnally knowing ;a girl under 16 years of age, the jury after 4J hours failed to agree and a new trial was ordered.
HOKITIKA, Sept. 17.
The half-yearly sitting of the Supreme Court opened this morning. Mr Justice Cooper congratulated the m* Vict on the absence of serious crime. Mr Justice Williams, in the l)iv«>ive Court this morning, grant«*l it decree ni.-i in a cas>e in which tlw petitioner, a young woman .sued for divorce on the ground of the insanity of the respondent, who had become in«ant> twelve month.* after the marriage, and had atteaipt>"d to commit suicide. The matter of publicity having been brought up by counM-1, who .stated that there was no misconduct, the judue .•aid tlieiv was not the slightest occasion to publish the names of the parties.
