HOCKEY.

The match between liawlnti and Te Bangitira ' was played on the * Athlelic Grounds (No. 2)" en Thursday. Bawhiti won the toss" and played with * strong wind at their back. From the bujly off Kawhiti ran clean through their. opponent? and M. Frnser registered an easy goal. "I he second goal was. scored by V. Caldwell. After this Kangitira livened up and by some good pacssiug got Rawhiti defending, until from a 25 Rawhiti broke away wiuh a good passing rush which ended in F. Verity shooting a tine goal. Half time then sounded. From tho bully-off Christchurch attacked strongly and had-Ilawhiti penned in their circle.for several minutes. Prom a corner, Chrietchurch forced hard but F. Verity toon bhifted things aucL good pa>i iug ended in (r. Wood scoring a goal. From this on the game was very even until V. Caldwell by fast following up scored another goal. Mr. Dreaver controlled the game. The Timaru ladies should take a lewson from the Christ church goal-keeper, who deserves special mention. The scores would have been more if Mi*s Strange had not, l>een there. - The game between Timaru and Ashburton wa« played on the same ground ar> the above. This match whs more interesting for the sj>ectatoitj on account, of the teams being bet'er matched. It opened up very fast. which lasted throughout. t»l»c first spell.
