DIVORCE CASES.
IMPORTANT QUESTION OF JURIS--1 DICTION. Fjress Associaticm-By Telegraph -Copyright ' * SYDNEY, Sept, 11. Mr Justice Simpson, in the Divorce Court, raised tln> question: whether proof of service upon a party to a diwrce suit residing in New Zealand could be accepted by the Court. It had been the practice of the-Court for many years to ha?e petitions served upon people beyond the jurisdiction of the Court, bui the time had come when ft should decide whether that was the correct practice. As far an the Court was concerned, a man in New Zealand was as much a foreigner as if ho resided in a village in France. If the practice wan not legal it woijld bar a great many divorces, and if. in future, the point was argued, and the High Court decided that there was no jurisdiction, the decision would invalidate hundreds of divorces that had been granted.
