A special meeting of the Timaru Borough Council wiiii held last night to receive and pa*s the balance t-hc-i fur 19078. as audited and certified. There w;.s ;i good attendance. BALANCE SHEKT AND "TAG."
The Mayor stated that'lhe balance sheet, was certified by the Auditor-General except for one "'tag." that, including Illsubsidy to the bands, the Council had exceeded the amount allowed by section 159 for special expenditure by £l3 7s. The Maytr said the tag would do no harm, and it did not seem reasonable. ;"> the Aet allowed the Council to e.-iab'ish " music gardens." and they could not do that without providing nvsic. They had not spent anything <n " riotous living." The nccessaiV formal resolution adopting the balincc sheet was carried. TENDERS. Tenders were opened for 16 chains of kerbing: J. O'Hagan £1 17s lid petchain (accepted). J. Burford £1 19s 6d, and Berry £2 15s. On tlie m r tion of Councillors Saflcrihwaite and Raymond it' was resolved to add to the contract, (provided to be done at tlie same rate) the four chains—from lh<' prst office to the Wreck Monument. Ther • were two dissentient, who said the work was not necessary, and the path no eyesore in its present condition.
