OBITUARY.

Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, August .19. Mr Joseph McKay, proprietor of ' the City Boct Palace, and well known in trotting circles, died to-day. The- cause of death was heart trouble, from which lie Lad buffered many years.

\ Old residents of Timaru will regret to hear of the death yesterday of Mr Henry Durand, who was found dead! sitting in a chair aiuV fully clothed in the coitage on Seaview 'XVirracc in which' he had resided alone for a number of years. Mr Durand was 72 years of age. He had recently been attended by Dr Gabites, he having been in a weak state since he sustained' a broken arm a few/months ago, and his Jieart was known to be failing, and under the circumstances Dr Gabitcs will issue a certificate of death from natural causes. Mr : Durand 'was ono of the old identities of Timaru, and I in the sixties he carried on business as I a gunsmith and whitesmith, but as there was not much demand for his cervices he spent much of his time in reading. He was of economical habits,, and early amassed a competence, and thenceforward lived a quiet retired life. He leaves a widow and daughter, from whom he had lived apart for t=ome lime, and both happened to be away from home yesterday, Miss Durand being away in the North Island.
