TEMUKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The mtxithly meeting of the Temuka Borough Council was held on Wednesday night. Present —Councillor J. Ashwell, J. Holwell, JV H. Crawshaw, Geo. Judsoir, T. Barr, A- Calder, J. McLean, and W- F. Evans. In the absence of the Mayor Councillor Ashwell was voted to the chair.
The Mayor (Mr Buxton) -wrote stating that he would be absent from the - meeting and suggesting the appointment of a Deputy-Mayor to act when necessary Councillor Frew was elected. Correspondence was read as follows: From Mr Flatman, M.P., xe opening •np of Alexander Street and stating lie would place the matter before the Minister of Railways. Mr Chenery Snggate, M.1.C.E., Auckland, wrote stating that for a small fee he was prepared to submit :i high procure water scheme for the town.—lt was ~decided to receive the letter with thanks. From Mr H-. Paterson, asking for formation of " footpath to his property in Rayner Street. —Referred to Works Committee.
' From Mr F. Saunders and the Rev. \V. Beckett, asking that the footpath opposite their places of residence in Beckett Street b? shingled.—The Works Committee to report at next meeting. - The Finance Committee reported that _ rte rates .outstanding totalled £34 16s Bd. The receipts from all sources amounted to £97 &s lid, and the debit was £523
4s 6a. The Committee recommended that in view of the big overdraft only tfie moit pressing works be undertaken during the next few month*. On the overseer's report, it was decided that the Works Committee inspect the water-race and repoit. Councillor Crawshaw for the Sanitation Committee reported that they had gone into the question of a new night cart, and recommended that they procure one .from Messtfi Cooper at. a cost of £33. Agreed to. The tenders of Messis .T. Simpson, f!. McS." Gentlemun, Jas. Hooper, A. M. Hooper, P. C'oira, P. O'Sliea, W. liryan, J. McAnliffe. J. Moore. A. Maslin, T. Burke, Mrs. E. Carr, Mrs. McGillum and J. Washington for garden reserves were accepted. - Mr Mcßratnev, creekcleaner, -waited upon the Board re a portion of the work left undone by his predece&sor. He a<ked for an additional £2 for work done. It was decided to allow £l.
Accounts for £49 18s Id were passed for payment, and the Council rose.
