WRESTLING AND BOXING. The Timaru Sports Club contiuued their boxing and wrestling carnival in the Theatre Royal last evening and a large audience was attracted. The procedings were commenced by .Brown, the Wellington champion and McKay trying conclusions in tlhe final round of the catcb-as-catch can wrestling, a 30minute contest or two falls out of three within that time. Messiu A. C. Pringle and R. Cooke acted as referees. Before commencing Mr Cooke informed the spectators that Brown was only 20 years of age; ho made this statement in view of it having been said that Brown was too good for anybody in this district, but as events turned out it -was scarcely necessary for him to refer to ibis. McKay secured a fall in the first 50 seconds of the contest; then within 10 minutes Brown, with a leg and arm hold, brought McKay on to his back very cleverly. After a spell to regain their wind the contestants had a solid twenty minutes of hard work and both men showed some pretlty holds. Brown tried a half and a full Nelson, but each time McKay got out of them. The latter, being "much heavier than Brown, had a decided advantage in some respects; he was able lu pick up his opponent and throw him ov~r his head, but Brown was two agile to allow himself to be grounded on his shoulders. Then again whenever McKay happened to be" lying on his stomach it was an impossibility for Brown 1o lift him; and Brown was forced to admit that McKay was " too solid." At the call of time, when the contest was declared a draw, Brown publicly declared that, this was the first occa.jiuu mi which h<had met his maieh. During the spell given lo the wp-htlcrs Mr E. Donohue gave a tint exhibit ion of club swinging and earned lound.- of applause. S. Burnip (Timaru). and Thomson (Cliristehurch), then had a >ji,-h-. boxing for three rounds. The contestants sat down upon the floor and placing feet to feet each gripped a ntick and attempted to pull one another over, the man getting two pulls out of three bi-ing the winner. This honour fell to Wade, who secured two pulls to Foster's one puli. Tho first boxing coutu-t «;r> between Stewart (Bst), champion bantam weigh: of Southland, and Kyle (Bst 21bs). Stewart) worked somewhat on the lines mad<: popular by Elliott, w;ts quick on his feet and could us-e both lianus well. His right handed upper cut, which he Tised fairly frequently, was something deadly, but fortunately for Kyle it failed to connect in the majority of cases. Stewart was also good with his left. Between them the lads made the game hot and strong at times, and finally the contest was given to Stewart on points. The referee expressed the opinion that this
