HOCKEY.
SUGGESTION TO LADIES. (To the'.Editor of the "Timaru Herald.") ® ;the ladies' hockey clubs in South Cantera bury.•" The Christchurch Afisociation is preparing; to send a team tn Wellington to play the lady representatives of that province . and it would be a good idea for the South.to be represented in that, team. It has been demonstrated by the Rawhiti Club . that South Canterbury i, hockey is equal to, if not better than the best. in the North, and it would add a laurer or two to South Canterbury's hockey crown if several of .their lady '' players were picked, as they undoubtedly would be, -to represent Canterbury. Now that the leading teams are playing in a tournament for the Marshall Cup, it would be an easy matter to pick a team thoroughly representative of South Canterbury and to send them t° Christ church Jr to ' play the Christchurch representatives. Funds could be raised to pay expenses by means of a social or a, concert. . Arrangements would of course have to be made with the Christchurch Association to have the representative ■z match played with a. view of having South . ' Canterbury "ladies included in the team to go to Wellington. Whether the Canterbury Association would consider it favourably, 1 cannot tell, but. they could have no objection in view of their, refusal to allow South Canterbury to form a separate Union. The reason given for refusal was that with a Sub-Union the. Canterbury centre would have the privilege of drawing on that Sub-Union for representative players, and in face of that reason they could hardly object to the inclusion of players from South Canterbury. This is only made as a suggestion , 8 to the Association in Timara. They can )T readily understand what an immense, fillip it would give to hockey if several of their j players were proved good enough for 1C representative honours. Hoping to be a. witness of a match between North and' South Canterbury,—l am etc., 'OSCAR ANDERSON.
