In view of the largely increased celebrations' being arranged for Empire Day Mr Asquitli, the Prime Minister, has been criticised in many quarters for refusin/ its official recognition. In the House of Commons C'aptvn Cra'j member for East Devon, proposed to introduce ii Jiill providing .for a. display of the Union Jack on certain occasions in the United Kingdom, more .particularly on Empire Day, and hoisting it on the national schools of Ireland where it- - is stated tlie majority of parents, children and managers acquiesced. The Nationalists forced a division on the motion for leave to introduce the Bill. It was refused by 156 votes to 88 votes.
