Bishop and Baby.

An amusing -story was told by tho Bishop of London "at the meeting on March 26th of the East London Church Fund He related how in Canada and Xew York he had found police always very ansious to know what, the Church was doing in the slums of Hast London. (Laughter.) Tho Bishop made an earnest appeal for further support for the fund. Tho Lord Mayor presided at the meeting, which was held in the Guildhall. The Bishop of Stepney, in appealing for funds, said that the position could be best summed up in the words of a man whom he once met casually in his front hall, and who said to him. " Sir, my character is excellent, but I am suffering from considerable financial instability." That was the position of tho fund.
