TIMARU GAS COMPANY.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The thirty-third annual meeting of the Tiniaru Gas Company was held in their offices- last night. Mr W. Evans, chairman, presiding over a meeting of eight •'hector.-- ai-d other members. On the. motion or Mr T. Pratt a. motion of thanks wa.s lecorded to the .staff. A report by the manager. Mr Courtis. The average per ton had increased from 11,000 odd im j.2.490 feci, duo to the use of the new retorts. Sales of residues bad been well maintained : coke sales had increased 480 tons, and the demand for tar exceeded the output. The fittings business had been successful, so far, and had every prospect of success. During last- year 86 sliojis and dwellings had been connected, requiring the laying of 7250 feet of piping, showing the increasing popularity of gas. iind when the new mains were laid he anticipated a. further large increase. Mr Courtis, in conclusion, recorded his appreciation of the work done by the men in the works.

The chairman said they had had a good year, and he did not think the electric light would do the company any harm. Elsewhere it- li.nl not done so, and there was nothing in the prospects of the company to grow pessimistic over. The directors were looking for a suitable .show room in a central position, its the emanations from the manufacturing department tarnished the fine fittings if tliey were displayed at the office. Two men were now engaged on the fittings branch, and more would be engaged if necessary. A vote of thanks to the chairman and directors being proposed, Mr Evans mentioned with regret the retirement of Mr Stericker. and Mr Pratt moved that the meeting record a vote of thanks to liim and this was put and carried. The meeting then terminated.
