WIN.

Prefw Association-By- Telegraph-Copyright

SYDNEY, February 27.

George Towns', oil being inter viewed, said that, though lie had hoped Tressider would be victorious, he always • thought Webb would win. No doubt, he must have improved considerably. If backers could bo found. Towns said he mightthink of rowing for the championship. His brother Charlie had no thought- of trying his luck again. He was too ' much disgusted with the last- race. There were plenty of good young scullers, hut they were not* equal to championship form. He thought Arnst ought to stand a very good chance. Per Press Association / WANGANUI, February 27. Most of the Australian visitors to the sculling championship, including Tres-sidi-rs trainer, pacemaker and backers, left by the mid-day train, and wete- accorded' a hearty send-off. The party, together with .Webb, visited Putiki Pah, at the invitation of the'natives, and were welcomed in true Maori fashion, the natives dancing Jiakas. Webb and Tressidvr were recipients of several presents from the natives. Tressider remains here for a'few days. ■. It- is probable that Fogwell will return in a few weeks' time.

A TRAINEE'S VIEWS.

PALMERSTON N., February 27. William Fogwell ■ passed through Palmerston to-day en route for Wellington where he joins the s.s. Moeraki for Jiis return voyage to Australia. He stated that he would probably return to New Zealand in about a month's time and take up his residence at- Wanganui. He will train Arnst lor his match with Webb, but will not definitely decide on challenging the; winner until later. Fogwell states positively that Arnst will row as a New Zealander and not as has been stated as an Australian. The match will probably not take place till November as the Wanganui river will be too subject to flooding before that time. Fogwell thinks that the race- will be the hardest Webb has vet had to row.
