At the inquiry into the grounding of the Maranoa, the master, Captain Sharland, deposed that "the mishap occurred during his .illness in Torres Straits. The pilot, acting pilot, and himself, attributed the accident- to the reduced speed. The current was thus able to put the vessel out of her course.
