Kennedy Macdonald'; chairman of th" Wellington Harbour Board, who is on Ire wav to luvei'cavgill. stated to a press interviewer to-day that although the Union Steam Ship Company had acquired the controlling interest in the patent. sip at Wellington, by what. was known as the purchase of tie English shaves, it was a question whether that would be of, much value. The members of the Board hold the strongest views upon the necestitr of preventing any combination of private individuals from obtaining possession of the foreshore at Wellington, and tliey had no desire to see the experience of the Svdney Harbour Trust repeated in connection with any portion of Port Nicholson They believed that they had ample powers to talce the land and property of the Patent .Slip, but if anything was wanted to do so tliey would ask Parliament next session to give them the necessarr power to acquire the slip.
