DUNEDIN, November 8.

'"•■ The Railway Classification Bill has caused' veiy 'pronounced" dissatisfaction among all branches, of the railway service locally. The men, when they recently ventilated 1 their grievances, had .built, their hopes on the amended' claesifica—on, but their hopes have been rudely, chattered. The men of the first- division aredisgusted with the treatment meted out to them. The service throughout was to day in a. state of ferment at. the proposals included in the Bill, and -the . position is considered to be aggravated by the fact that the post and telegraph oitrcials have scored well- Stress -is laid on the responsibilities of railway servants as compared with the post and telegraph servants. In regard to the first division, there is marked improvement as' far r.s lads entering the service are concerned,'! but glance ahead l , and it is held to be. sufficient-to stop anyone front joining the railway service. It is contended that \rrany senior men will leave the service. As to the second division, the guards complain strongly that they have recerved sixpence increase, but, the number "u> which that applies has been considerably reduced to what it would havk been if the rise, were given straight out' according to the present grading. A meeting, of the first division was held this evening, and resolutions strongly condemning the new classification were passed.
