Chicago has followed' up the investigation into municipal and police graft by unearthing evidence pointing to a streetcar scandal of finst-class importance. It is alleged, on apparently strong grounds, that the city has been jockeyed out of no l«s than £3,400,000 in the."settlement of the street problem, which has troubled the -people for years.. The company running the street' cars received a new franchise after the campaign for nnmicipal cars had been started, on condition that the syi?.tniis would be handed over for munieipalisntioh on demand at a previously agreed upon price. Now it transpires that in that price were over-valuations amounting to the stun mentioned above, accounted for by the inclusion of Arornout equipment. Collusion between tho municipal authorities and the officials of the company is alleged, and the greatest interest i; taken in tha development of the scandal.
