SIX-A-SIDE TOURNEY.

A hockey six-a-side 'tournament, under the auspice's of the Timaru Hockey Club, was held oil the Athletic Grounds ■ yesterday in fine weatlter. Thirteen teams (seven girls' and six inen's) were entered, and some really good sport .was witnessed. The finals, which were won by Rawhiti A (girls) and Timaru C (men), were the mo&t exciting games of the day, and the enthusiasm of the spectutois was intense. Plav was- commenced about-2.30 p.m.;, and wats carried through without a hitch, the rofcreeing being all that could be des-ired. One of the Ra-whiti players (Mis-s N. Matheson) had tlia misfortune to hurt Ikt ankle, and was obliged: to retire from .'tlie'' f game. J- I'lie following is a summary of the games. Girls' Games. Chalmers A t. Rawhiti B (Mr J. Davey, * referee). —Five spells were played before Chalmen; gained the victory, although Chalmers were superior all j through. The game was even at first, | and although Rawhiti wera driven to defend they iirevented any score being made until Miss A. Howens got-the ball over Rawhit-i's touch-line. Chalmers 1, Rawhiti nil.

Rawhiti A v. Temuka B (Mr Parker, referee). —Rawhiti a much better team than Temuka, and held the latter on the .defensive, but Temuka played well. No score was effected in the first two spells, and the game was continued'when Temuka held their own well, land nearly shot a goal. Rawhiti by a' good rush enabled Mies M. .Fraser.to make a corner shot, and win by 1 to 0. Rawhiti C v. Temuka A (Mr S. Brookes, referee). —Temuka attacked from the start, and nearly scored shortly after commencing. . A little more play resulted in Miss M. Davey, refer-se.). —R-awliiti held Chalmers on the defensive for a few, minutes, after which the game became. Aiore forward. There was no score at the end of the second spell, and play was - continued. Some exciting play resulted in Miss Wood making a goal for Rawhiti, who thus won by 1 to nil. OhahneiK A. v. Temuka A (Mr Marriott, referee): —Although Chalmers- started well. Miss M. Mills, of Temuka, was soon able to score by a fine individual effort. Fast play on both sides followed, but no further score was made. Temuka. 1. Chalmers nil. Final. Rawhiti A v. Temuka A (Mr Brookes, referee). —A short- spell of fast play enabled Miss V. Gracie scored. The game then became fast, with a slight advantage to Timaru, who, however, were unable to score. Timiirii were attacking when time sounded. Geraldine 1, Timaru nil. Timaru B.v.
