INSURANCE AMALGAMATION. In the Assembly, Mr Bent promised to make enquiries regarding the amalgamation of the Citizens and Mutual Life Associations, with a view to protecting the interests of local policy-holders. A meeting of members of the Mutual Life Association after a discussion of an hour and a half carried a resolution in favour of amalgamation with the Citizens' Life bv 131 votes to six votes. LITIGATION AND CRIME.
Statistics dealing with litigation show a marked falling off, compared with ten yeans ago, and as regards crime, comparing 1906 with 18S0, .the charges per 1000 of the population for offences against the person decreased by 60 per cent. Offences against property and charges of drunkenness decreased' 31 per cent., and other offenc-es 24 per cent. THE PLAGUE. BRISBANE, September 18. - On the arrival of the steamer Mareeba from Sydney, a case of plague was discovered oil board. This is the second suspicious case.
