The executive of ythe Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants cannot declare a strike unless" 75 per cent, of railway men vote affirmatively. The executive believe that 90 per cent, will support them. A STRIKE AVERTED. Received 0.21 a.m.. September 19th. MELBOURNE. September 18. The trouble that was brewing in regard to the wages of slaughtermen engaged in the export -trade- has been averted for the present, both sides agreeing to refer the dispute to the Wages Board. At- a meeting of the federated butchers' employees' union a letter was received from the Canterbury Slaughtermen's Industrial Union stating tliat the whole of the Unions in New Zealand were being federated and desired fo amalgamate with "the Australian Union.
