TROUT FISHING.

NEW SEASON'S DISPLAY. The Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association are now making their annual display of trout and other fishing tackle. Starting'in a quiet way, some years ago, they have now reached n stage when the stock is most complete in every respect, and with an expert in charge, ail anglers can be catered for in any way they desire. The rods, both for 'fly and minnow are from such world-renowned makers as Hardv, Alcock, and Millward, and ill* prices run from 7s 6d to £lO or £l2. A 10ft. built cane fly rod for 12s 6d (with two tops) is marvellous value, and the greer.heart down to 7s 6d ought to be just- the line for boys to make an excellent start with. The Hardy and Alcock built cane, for both' fly -and minnow, are of the usual excellence, "if anything an advance on those which came to the colony last year. The lines, mostly in the handy length of 80 yards, are Alcock's braided silk, and sirs of varying strength, those suitable for the big rivefc being wonderfully strong yet light in bulk. Ply books are of the usual kind, but the real good things are -the- fly boxes and cases. A small Malloch case which fits the waistcoat pocket holds six' dozen trout flies, and should be very popular. Generally spanking cases are too large, and this new line should sell exceedingly well. The reels run from 4s to £2 10s," the latter being a Malloch's casting reel, and the Moscrop with ventilating drum is another of the first-class kind. The. minnows show great variety, and have all been specially mounted on the best double gut, the Devons with their strong mounts being really first-class. The flies both trout and salmon, were specially made •a England for the C.F.C.A., the small being to patterns to order, while the salmon are in great variety and include all the most deadly dressings. Casts and traces are all of the special Hercules brand, treble gut and twisted wire gimp for the big rivers, and the very best salmon for smaller Streams. In casts the weights run from Kxxx to strong salmon, and the gut is clean and regular. The gut in hank/ is also a, splendid lot. Waders and brogues are from the. North British Rubber Company, and ar« a little dearer, owing to the''rise in rubber; but the quality is the finest imported. A large line of baskets gaffs, nets, sea fishing tackle, etc.. makes up a stock and display that is the most comprehensive and be'st the Association have shown, and should find the greatest favour with all who go in for the exhilarating sport of angling.
