The South Canterbury Coursing Club commenced their third meeting of the'l9o7 season yesterday. A light rain began to fall in "the early hours of the morning, and increased about mid-day to a heavy rain, which continued for about two hours. | This thoroughly soaked the ground, and -consequently the attendance wns practically confined to those, directly interested in the competing hounds. With the- exception of one *hower of half an hour's duration, the afternoon was dry though cold, and the- wet underfoot did not add to the pleasure of those taking part in the meeting. In spite of these unfavourable conditions, the coursing was quite successful. The dogs were in good form, the hares strong and fleet, and the. .sport of a high order of excellence. The. hares were somewhat slow in rinding the escapes, Land as a consequence there was a long list of deaths. The meeting commenced sharp to time, and the last course of the second round in the Bracelet was finished about half-past four. Everything went off without a hitch, the only cause for complaint by the officials being the dilatoriness of owners in getting their dogs off the grounds.at the end of each course. Mr J. H. Rodgers had charge of the catering, and provided warming cups of tea to the satisfaction~of all.
