HUNTING.

THE KAKAHU MEET.

So far as the number and quality of the field were concerned, the meet of the bomb Canterbury Hunt at Mr J. Earls homestead, Kakahu, on Monday last, was a very successful one. Owing to the boisterous wind prevailing, the scent did not lie sufficiently well to enable the hounds to do themselves justice, and although numerous short runs took place, no kills were recorded. The field were regaled with light refreshments liberally provided by Mr Earl prior to making a start. Scarcely were the followers in their saddles before *he music of the pack announced a find. Some very good hunting took place in the fine grass lands in tha direction of Hilton, but before going very far puss doubled back, crossed the road, and was lost in the Te Aloana riverbed, beverai. short runs followed over country abounding in formidable gorse fences, which were responsible for more than one empty saddle. Liinch was very kindly provided by Mrs Angus McDonald, Mrs Beattie, Mrs James Hav, and Miss Scott Thompson, and Mr James Skinner also showed his good wishes by inviting followers to adjourn to his homestead when passing through. Among the followers were—Mrs Elworthy on Ironbark, Airs Hislop on Zulu, Miss Temple on Puck, Mrs Crowe on Kiwi, Miss Wigley on Rupert, Miss Barker on Maori, AJss Denniston on Shirley, Mrs M.
