PRETORIA, May 27. Since the military' were summoned, the strikers on the Rand are quieter, but confident of the result, declaring that the employers will be compelled to feed the Chinese and Kaffir coolies until a settlement of the dispute. REQUEST FOR. TROOPS. Received 1i.20 p.m., May 28th. ' LONDON, May 28. . Mr Churchill states that- the pretence of many Chinese on the Rand adds to the general ii}gesurity and justifies jjord Selborne acceding -to the Transvaal Government's request for troops. Router's Johannesburg correspondent states that- cavalry will completely garrison the Reef, "thus enabling the numerous half-hearted strikers to resume .work.
