Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 27. The westerly gale still continues, and shipping is bemg generally delayed. Several vessels arriving to-day ..from various places, including the Talune from Fiji, report .having'.•experienced 'very rough sages.WANGANUI, May 27. The weather is .bitterly cold and heavy rain is frequently failing. CSPvISTCHURCH, May 27.; There are thick clouds overhead,, and the hills are obscured' .by 'dense rain mist. There is snow on all the back ranges. A sudden change occurred at noon, when the sun. shone brilliantly,' and it, was quite warm. - ' DUNEDIN, May 27. The weather is wintry, and light snow is falling in town, while high levels have a thick coating. ■ GORE, May 27. The weather throughout the lower part of Otago has become very cold and bleak. Durincf the past few days frequent ; show and showers have fallen,, and the rivers are in. a state, of flood. : • . ■'•

The southerly gale which' sprang up on Sunday night'and continued all day, yesterday, raisgd a yery ctipppy -sea,, in the harbour, and when died down somewhat a big sea got up outside. Towards midnight the,rollers'were coining in very : high and' close' together, aiid were breaking over the eastern, extension to- the shore end. Some small damage resulted from this, the/sea breaking through into the pit excavated by the shingle elevator, and filled, it with water. -The two lines of rails in the pit were a good deal broken up.' but the elevator was drawn back to within a few chaine of the.,blacksmith's shop, and received no damage. During the afternoon the Kaikoura, which..,was made fast iii the, outer'berth of, the. maifi wharf, was surging' about a, igqod 'deal, nncl her' moorings had ' to' be carefully' looked after by : the Harbourmaster .and. his staff. The gale was accompanied! by ' very cold weather.
