.... : OLD TBL-mUVIAN AT* CANNES. To the Editor of the Timaru Herald. Sir, —I am sure it will give great pleasure to the old friends of Mr and Mrs. W. B. Craig, who were for many years residents of your town, to learn that Mr Craig has been most successful in competing in the Cannes Golf Club Spring Meeting. He was runner-up for H.I.H. Grand 'Duke Michael of Russia's gold cigarette case, which position entitled him to the handsome bowl presented by the Duke of Devonshire.Mr Craig also succeeded in winning the Grand Duke Cyrill's prize, after a tie with 'Sir Carlisle of Oxford University fame. The Grand Duke Cyrill's wife is a daughter of the late Duke of Edinburgh. The prizes were presented 4iy tile Countess of Torby, wife of the Grand Duke Michael before a brilli ant company. Sirs. Craig failed to repeat her form of 1905. I believe- Sir Craig was a prominent member of the South Canterbury Athletic Club in the far off seventies. Plight representatives of the Timaru Golf Club visited Oamaru yesterday, and played foursomes and singles against eight of the Oamaru Club on the Redcastle links. The day was very fine, rather too hot, indeed ; the visitons were hospitably entertained by the Oamaru Club, and greatly enjoyed their outing. The following are the "scores, Oamaru players named first: Foursomes (9 holes). —Armstrong and Ward 3, Slarshall and Lynch 3 (halved 3) ; Douglas Du Croz 5, Sommerville and Slannering 5 (1); Wilson and Slaude 2, Perry and Tasker 3 (4) ; Hindmarsh and Armstrong 2, Cox and Knubley 5 (2). Singles (18 holes) —C. Armstrong 8, Marshall 5 (5) ; Ward 5. Lynch 8 (5) ; Douglas 4, Sommerville 11 (3) ; Du Croz 3, Perry 6 (9); Wilson 5, Cox 9 (4); Slaude 8, Slannering 6 (4); Hindmarsh 2, Knubley 7 (9) ; E. Armstrong 6, Tasker 8 (4).
