THE RUGBY UNION. The monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Rugby Union was held in Hutchinson's rooms last evening. Mr F. (_'. Watson presided. The secretary of the Timarti Football Club wrote protesting that in the senior match between the Ximaru and Pirates teams, on May 2nd, a- player (named), was not a financial member of the Ttmuku, club, as required by rale 16: another piaysr for Pirates, did not wiS'tli with rule 5 Le. had not been a resident in the district for eight days. A letter was received from the secretary to the Temuka club stating that the player first .named paid his subscription for 1906 on May Bth. In reply to Mr Carlton, the chairman said the name was not filed as that of an unfinancial member before the annual meeting as required by the rules. Mr Drake moved that the player be ■warned for playing for Pirates while an unfinancial member of the Temuka- club: and that the first charge in the protest be dismissed. Mr Kennedy seconded Mr Drake's motion, and Mr Fitzgerald proposed an amendment that the player be f-uspended and that the match be replayed. Mr Conh'.n seconded the amendment- which was lost -by ten to seven. Mr Drake's motion was carried br nine to seven.

In regard to the other protest Mr Shirtcliffe said the player had only been in th=: district six days. Mr Conljui moved that the match should be replayed VLtid Mr Shirtcliffe seconded the proposal. The motion was carried by a good majoritv.

A prole-t was received from the Celtic club against Zingari for playing r„ man who had plaved for Star. Mr J.
