GRAVE ASSAULT.

NAPIER, May 17.
Thomas Peddle, a settler, appeared at the Court to-day on a ; charge of assaulting Cutten, S.M., in the' execution of his duty as sheriff. Peddle, gome time 'ago agreed 'to sell his station to Oswald Orr, but later repudiated 'the agreement, Orr took the case to-the Supreme Court, when judgment went-in his-favour. - Peddle went to the Appeal Court but again lost. Yesterday, Mr. Cutten went up with a party of constables ;to execute an order of ejectment, but Peddle resented the intrusion and struck Mr Cutten a violent blow on the bridge of liia nose. Peddle was-remanded. • ' .
