New 1 South Wales beat Queensland at the Rugby game by eight points, to six points. > • - P«»r Press Association UHRISTCHURCm i June' 30' In consequence of the heavy rain of last night and this morning the football grounds were'in such a-bad state that the Canterbury Rugby Union committee found it necessary to postpone all matches set down for this afternoon. During the present season three Saturdays have been lost from various causes and the,senior championship matches will doubtless have to be curtailed in consequence. The members of the Timaru Football Club in all three grades meet at the Club
roomr ! this- evening for• the-purpose - of' training. The members of the Pirates Club are expected to roll up at the stone stables this evening for practice. As. the three teams -will be playing on Thursday, all players should keep in training. FAIRLIE BEAT ALBURY.
A football match Albury versus Fairlie was played on the Albury grounds on Thursday and after a well fought out game resulted in a win for Fairlie by 6 points (2 tries) to 3 points (1 try). H. Manathan and A. Ring Scored tries for the.winners and J. Flynn for Albury. Hosking, Burnett and O'Dowd were the most prominent in the Fairlie team, and Simpson andTrembath local men. Mr Lewis acted, as referee. After the match the visiting team was entertained at a dinner and smoke concert, a very enjoyable evening being spent. •• v
