THAMES, Ftbruarv 27. The timber export industry is growing brisker. The baique Laira h*is just sailed with 550,000 feet of white pine for Melbourne. The barquentine Handa Isle and Selwyn Craig are loading timber for Australian ports, and the 'barqutaune limn is expected at any time to load for Europe, DUNEDIN. February 27. The City Council in committee io-ajj;hl decided to advertise for an electrical engineer for the electric tramways at a salary of £7OO, and also for a traffic manager at £SOO per annum. The Temperance Rcforax Council declined the request cf the licensed vicfallers' association to nominate two candidates representing the moderate party along with three from the no-license party f.-r the City Licensing Committee.
