A PROTEST FROM EMPLOYERS

DUNEDIN. February 20. Recently, on representations of some of the men employed in the railway goods shed, the Railway Department decided to close the gates leading to the sheds at 4.50. The Employers' Association met today and passed a resolution protesting against the Railway Department's, proposal, as it would materially affect me:chants and traders in despatching good*;, and e*riouslv curtail the hours of a large nuniber of men who are paid weekly wages. The meeting also protested apafnst the manner it> which this regulation had been passed without consideration of the interests of traders and manufacturers, and the Chamber of Commerce is to be asked to join the Association in protest.
