On resuming work tiis morninjr, Bruciy was the first to go down the well. He was immediately overcome with foul gas and fell to the bottom. Radford sought the assistance of Goodson Bros, and others. Fred. Goodson went down the well to endeavour to get Brady up, but was no sooner down than he too was overcome. Fortunately he had taken the precaution to put-a rope round his body and by this means he was hauled to the surface. He was unconscious and remains so, being under medical treatment. Sergeant Phair got Brady's body up with grappling irons. Life was extinct, the fumes from the well overpowering Brady. He was a single man, and it is believed that his parents reside at Otahuhu.
