AUCKLAND, February 16. _i ..Frank Heriot. Laing was charged at the Police Court to-day with having contracted a number of debts _with. various Auckland business firms while still an undischarged bankrupt and also with having contributed to his bankruptcy by rash and hazardous speculation and gambling. The official assigne said that he had examined accused's rwoks and found, that his unsecured liabil-, ities were £IOO9, there being £435 out-., standing for creditors'who had not proved, so far. It was a. difficult, thing.to assess/ the value of the assets, but he was inclined to put them down as under £2O. His earnings appeared to Save been in the gross' about £llsO since June last and his capital at the start was on his statement (although it did not appear on the books) £2OO. The deficiency amounted to £934 and. the total amount for which he had to account was £2284. By way of business, travelling expenses, etc., he accounted vaguely for £BBO. He further accounted for private and househld expenses for £3BO, leaving £1324 unaccounted for. A written confession of the offences made.by accused was put in and he pleaded guilty./'.
