The mysterious disappearance of a young native is causing some excitement among the Maoris at Manakau. Pahapa Ihaka, whose brother committed suicide under peculiar circumstances about two months a"o, has been missing sincei Monday week. At 4 o'clock on that day he left his mother on the road to inspect his unoccupied cottage close by, saying that he would " overtake her in a minute," but he has not been seen or heard of since, though' diligent search was instituted that evening and has been continued ever since.
Recently the , Pr&nier .promised -that £ for £ would be granted on all moneys sUb-" scribed up to £SOO towards establishing a permaneot art gallery in Wellington. Already about £2OO is subscribed 1 and a public meeting is to be cabled to take steps to raise tie balance.
