His Excellency the Governor has* leased Mr Sydney Johnston's residence at Oraawharo, Tnkapau, for three months, and will probably reside there for the remainder of the fishing season.

BLENHEIM, February. 13. The Peloms Road Board "litis been informed that the receiver of laiid revenue has been notified by the Audit Department that halves of royalties received upon timber cut in State forests are not payable to local bodies under the Timber and Flax Royalties Act of 1905. As all the sawmill licenses in this district are :;; State forests the royalties will be practically nil, if the Audit Department is correct. The Board expected £4s*o froni this source and is much disappointed. It has communicated with Mr Mills, who has wired that the Cabinet has been unable to discuss the matter in the absence of Sir J. G. Ward.

OAMARU. Februarv 15.

In view of the high cost of cornsacks this season the Oamaru grain merchants have fixed 6£d as the price to be paid to farmers when purchasing their grain. The potato blight has started here and some crops have been completely destroyed. One crop that was sprayed twice, once before the disease appeared asd again when it did appear, continued to decay. The disease is not thought to be th* Irish blight, but to be due to the excessively wet season. . - , ■
