Per Press Association. PAHIATUA, January 2. 3 At Kailawa. Ernest Stratford, aged 27, 1 was thrown from his 3ion*e sustaining injuries from which .he died. DUNEDIN, January 2. Alfred Lewis, aged 18 years, was the victim 7>f an accident at Deborah Bay on December 51st. which resulted in his death yesterday. It appears that the deceased and anoth«r young man were gathering some of the Taipo explosive which had v been left on the beach when the company '" gave up the manufacture of the material. J- Deceased was putting the explosive in a bag ic whilst Nelson held a lighted match. By g some means the hag caught fire and the s' explosive severely burned Lewis. deuce disclosed that a quantity of Taipo had been carted and thrown on to tho beach at Grassy Point and bad been picked up by several persons. The jury rel turned a verdict that death was due to I shock caused by severe burns from the • Taipo explosive, Tfcev added a rider that i gross carelessness had* bscn exercised in disposing of the explosive, and that the-' authorities should take action to discover by whose authority it was placed within i the reach of all and sundry not knowing the danger of the explosive- aW th.-\t immediate steps be taken to destroy the remainder.
