FIRES
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 23. A fire at Mercury Bay destroyed a house owned by L. D. Nathan and C 0.., anil occupied by H. Steedman, It was insured in the Norwich Union Office for £4OO. NELSON, March 23. A fire broke out this afternon in Panama House, a large boarding-house in Collingwood street, owned by Mr Percy Adams, ;nd occupied by Mr Dublois. The origin ">f the fire is unknown, but it came fron one of. the bedrooirs. A high southerly wind was blowing, and the place woj gutted. Nothing was saved. Mr Dub fois was away at Wesfport, and only Mrf Dublois, heir "daughter, and a few boarder? were in the house at tlie time. The firIs still raging, though.it is fully well I'.ndei control. Fears are entertained for the adjoining houses in liardv street. A good pressure of wdter is available.
