THE HALF-HOLIDAY.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —During the last few issues of your paper we have noticed that other centres nave been arranging for the weekly halfholiday for the coming period. As'yet I have lieard of no action on the part of those affected in - Timarn, and the city fathers will soon dacide the question for another year at their special .meeting. It is not necessary for me to point ont the necessities for Timaru to fall in line with the larger towns and thus have Saturday afternoon instead of breaking into the week by having two afternoons instead of one. I trust that when the Council come to decide the question they will consider the numbers affected in Timaru—some hundreds of clerks and shophands—and legislate in accordance with their wishes by proclaiming Saturday the statutory haif-holi-dav. I hope some other pen than mine will take up this cause on behalf of those concerned.
