SOUTH CANTERBURY CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

The directors of the South Canterbury Caledonian Society met last night. Present: Messrs J. L. Gillies (president), W. A. Courtis,-J. Liliico, "A: C. Pringle, T. J. Burns, P. Sinclair, A. Bascand, F. Palliser, I. J. Bradley, and A. H. Bourn. Apologies Were received from Messrs J. Hole, H. B. Kirk, and P. Foster. The statement of the result of the sports showed; as follows: Receipt?: Privileges, £B9 7s 3d;, gates, £389 19s 6d; entrance fees, £6B > programmes, £l7 4s 7d; total, £564 115.4 d. Expenditure—Prizes, £300; labour, carting, etc., £2110s; printing, advertisingsetc., £22 10s; bands, £26; handicappers,' £5 ss; judges' expenses, £8 3s; stm'dri&i bringing the total to £39110s 2d; profit, £173 Is 2d.

The president congratulated the Society upon a very, successful gathering in spite of unfavourable weather. The privileges had brought in about £lO more than the previous year; the gates £4l less; entrance fees, about the same; programmes £lO less; the prizes had cost £3l more, and the other expenses about evened np the total expenditure, this year's .being about £2 less than last year's. The overdraft stood at about £l5O, and after membeis' subscriptions' and other small receipts (which- were not" included in the above statement) had been paid in, the Society should-«ad-up the year with' a credit bal- - His position as president had been • made' somewhat unpleasant by his having been taten to task by- some of the directors over various matters which he detailed.. He preferred that such things should come -up at .a meeting for "discussion, so- that explanations, if any, cou'd !be properly heard. The receipts were only £3O less than last year, a result due to some extent to the action of the emergency committee in specially engaging crack i cyclists as a draw, and he thought the expense thus incurred was money well spent. The balance sheet was then discussed, and adopted unanimously. The president's explanations of the Betters referred to by him heard, the difficulties cleared up by him and the secretary; none of them Was of importance. .- - . -

Accounts, amounting to abont £BO, were passed for payment. i The meeting then went into mmmittee. land passed the following resolutions:— I That Mr M. Jennings (ground man), be granted & bonus ; that a special meeting re finance b? hsld a? soon as practicable; and

that Air Dale be voted £2 -2s for work done in taking the levels of the ground inside the track. .

A hearty vote of thanks to the judges and to all outside officials was passed, mention being made of the excellent work done by them.
