Tbe Yorkshire Cricket Council is . opposed to widening wickets, but the County Committee is in favour of widening, and recommends that a trial of the innovation should be made. A cricket match was played on Thursday afternoon at Kingsdown between the local Cricket Club and St. Andrews. _ The scores in the first innings were —Kingsdown 18, and St. Andrews 22, A. Wederell being top scorer with nine. On going to the wickets for the second innings St. Andrews made 43 for five wickets; Hawkex (15, not out), A. Eyre (11), and J. Campbell (11) reaching double figures. The ladies of Kingsdown provided most acceptable afternoon tea. The match South End v. Civil Service 11., started on Thursday evening, and completed last evening, resulted in a win for the Service by 42 to 37. Archer played a very good "game for the winners, putting on 20 runs; Lanaster (6) and McFnrlane .(5) being other chief scorers. For South End, Wall (16) and Ellis (10) accounted for nearly all the runs. Hay and McFarlane, with" seven for 16 and four for 19, bowled well for the winners, and Archer kept wickets in capital style. Leggett was the most successful bowler for the South End. * The return cricket match was played at Washdyke on Thursday between the Fairview and Washdyke Clubs. The game resulted in a win for Washdyke on the first innings with 80 runs against .33 for Fairview. The principal scorers were : For Washdyke, F. Nash. (20), H. Harris (18), A. Barron (16) plaved freely, while Williams, who never batted better, compiled 45. not out. He was ably ;>ssisted by Wade at a critical time, and the visitors won bv 32 runs and one wicket to spare. In bowling for Tenmka, Cecil Brown had the best average with two wickets for 8 runs, while MiniHe (four for 27} and MeCaskill (three for 32) were not 5° b J* despised. For Timaru. The match Temuka Juniors v. Waverlev was played on Thursday on Russell Square", and resulted in a win for the latter by 6 runs. Temuka. batting first, made 24; AspinaQ and Coira 4 each, and Austin 5 were the chief scorers. R. Lawyon (five tor 10) and Halkett (four for 11) bowled best for Waverlev. In their first innings, Waverlev made 30: Halkett 17 not out and Anstey 6. Brown (five for 7) and pick i three for 17) had the best average tor Temuka. The second innin-s of Temuka resulted in 27 being put up; Harte 6. and Brown 4. R.
