PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS.

opiHi. The Opihi School Committee held its usual school treatjand distribution of prizes on Thursday last, and with the exceptionof one or two showers, was favoured with a fine day. The children to the number of twenty-five each received a valuable; book prize, among- them being three pre- 1 sented by Miss Alexander, the former teacher, and two for attendance by Mr Pearson. The special prizes for the best attenders living within naif a mile of the school were woe by Ernie Matthews, Fred Matthews and May Wells, and those given for the most regular attenders living outside of half a mile to James Stickings and Edie Cunningham. The children were games until late in the afternoon, luncheon being provided by the ■ ladies of the district. A dance was held in the evening for adults and was well patronised. The teacher and school committee are to be congratulated on. a pleasant and successful day.

TEMUKA DISTRICT- HIGH SCHOOL.

The annual distribution of prizes in connection with, the above school was made yesterday afternoon in the schoolroom, Temuka. Besides a great collection of pupils of the school there were present a number of parents and friends and Mr T. H. Goy, in the absence of ihe chairman of the School Committee, presided. He was supported by the Mayoress (Mrs Havhurst) who distributed the prizes, the Rev. Messrs J. Adccck, M.A., and J. Blight and several members of the School Committee. The infants, under the direction of Miss Phillips, head mistress, rendered three or four action songs to music, supplied by Misses Cooper and Buiilie, and the elder scholars under the conductorship of Mr A. A. Hintz, contributed several part songs. Speeches were delivered by .the chairman, the Key. Messrs Adcnek and Blight, Mr Flatman and the headmaster (Mr McLeod).
