Per Press Association. GISBORNE, January 22., The water and drainage poll was carried by a majority of 2 to 1 on a heavy poll. The result was received with great jubilation. WANGANUI, January 22. The Hospital Board to-day accepted plans for the Queen Victoria ward. The new wing will accommodate 22 beds, will be 100 i'eet by 25 feet, and contain several other rooms, lavatories, etc. The buildings will cost about £2500, nearly half of which has been raised by local subscriptions. NAPIER, January 22. Archibald Fairburn, for stealing a horse, saddle and bridle, was to-day committed for trial for stealing the articles mentioned from Mr W.„K. White, having yesterday been committed for trial in connection with a similar theft alleged to have been committed at Hastings. WELLINGTON, January 22. At a meeting of the North Island Bowling Association, the question of carrying out future inter-club matches was discussed, and it was decided to recommend that clubs entering for rink matches at the inter-club tournament be divided into sections, each section to play one another, and the winners of the respective sections to play off, play if possible not to exceed four days. " The next champion fours will probably be held at Feilding or Palmerston North. DUNEDIN, January 22. At the City Council to-night, attention was drawn to a statement published by Councillor Muir to the effect that in connection with the tramways construction contracts, he had been- offered a free trip to Australia and San Francisco. A committee of the whole Council was appointed to inquire into the matter as against an amendment by Councillor Muir to refer the matter to three ex-Mayors. Councillor Muir stated that he had mentioned no names in connection- with the offer made to him, end if the motion was carried his lips were sealed.
