Eastern news states that a fire at .-Canton destroyed 800 houses and 20 lives- were lost. A steam launch with about 200 passengers on board sank in the River Mandovy, at Panjun. A fatal accident is reported from Foster's bush, near CoromandeL Charles Bennett and William Reddy went into the bush with the object of felling trees.;- Reddy was; Tip' a tree cutting off aj branch, and Bennett clearing ■underneath, when a large limb fell and pinned Bennett to the ground.
