Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Jaimaiy 22. The match Wanganui v. Manawatu commenced to-day. Wanganui in their first innings compiled 73; Francis 13, H. B. Cave (not out) 16, Luxford 18, Carrad 19. Manatvatn replied with 78; Gredingham 28, Fanning 15, Eyre (not out) 15. Wanganui, second innings—9s; H. B. Gave (not out) 54, Francis 16. Manawatu, wanting 90 to win, had lost 5 wickets for 59 when the stumps were drawn. MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. CHRISTCHUBCH, January 22. At a meeting of the" New Zealand Cricket Council to-night, the question of getting an English team to visit New Zealand was discussed, and it was decided that no further action be taken in the matter until the secretary receive more definite information. In connection with the North v. South Island match, it was resolved that the selectors be asked to pick teams not later than February 7th. All expenses of the match are to be borne by the Council, and in the event of' any deficiency, by affiliated associations in" equal shares. The Hon.. E. C. J. Stevens, Messrs Harman, Bodoington and Raphael were appointed a committee to manage the match.
