Several thousands of the Duke of Cornwall's cigars, which are intended for use during the visit to Canada-, have been recovered in sealed cases from the wreck of the Lusitania. Received 10.27 p.m., August 22nd. SENTENCE ON A GOLD ROBBER. Winters, the Selby gold robber, has been sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment. INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION. President McKinley has issued invitations for an International Exhibition at St. Louis next year. A RETRIAL FOR MURDER. BERLIN, August 21. The trial at Berlin of two soldiers, Marten and his brother-in-law Hicket, on a charge of murdering Captain Vonkrosigk, has been revised. At the previous trial both men were acquitted. Marten was now found guilty and sentenced to death, and Hicket was acquitted. Received 1.3 a.m., August 23rd. JAPANESE DEFENCE. I TOKIO, August 22. Japan is rapidly constructing a war harbour at Malsumai, opposite Vladivostock.' THE CZAR'S VISIT TO FRANCE. PARIS, August 22. Drastic military precautions are being taken for the safety of the Czar during his visit to France.
